My first encounter with Deloitte was in Dr. McQuaid's 391 course. I followed up with the representatives later that night during an information session and met new hires, seniors, managers, and partners. My attendance at the Deloitte socials and ISA presentations and passing my resume along was crucial in obtaining a first round interview, which was less nerve wrecking because I was interviewed by a partner that I had spoken to during a social.

I was located at the LA office as an Enterprise Risk Services intern. It was an overall great learning experience, and I had a blast getting to know other interns. Throughout the summer, I had the opportunity to meet other interns and experienced professionals from LA, Costa Mesa, Phoenix, Las Vegas, and San Diego. The socials included brunches, dinners, and exclusive Hollywood events.

My responsibilities aligned with those of first years and included reviewing, testing, and analyzing quality control procedures (think COSO and SOX). The hours were flexible; my managers highly recommended against working more than 8 hours, and my internship aligned with the 4th of July, so I received 3 days of PTO. The amount of face time with managers and partners was surprising and enabled me to expand my network within the company. I was also given the opportunity to interview the client's upper management and gain perspective on the responsibilities of one in such a position. I highly recommend introducing yourself to as many professionals as possible, because it will increase your chances of getting assigned to a client, industry, or project you are the most interested in. I have accepted a full time offer, and I am eager to return to the office.
