KPMG LLP, the audit, tax and advisory firm, is the U.S. member firm of KPMG International. KPMG International’s member firms have 137,000 professionals, including more than 7,600 partners, in 144 countries. KPMG’s history spans three centuries and features a number of significant mergers, most recently the combination of Peat Marwick International and Klynveld Main Goerdeler, and their individual member firms, into KPMG in 1987.
I went through the interview process with the Big 4 during my 3rd year. The first round interviews were all on campus and were pretty conversational. The in-office second round interviews were similar to the first rounds, but also included different presentations and chance to meet a plethora of professionals. I ultimately decided to choose KPMG for the global opportunities (more on that later) and the professionals, clients and culture of the Silicon Valley office.
The summer internship kicked off with the National Intern Training, with about 1500 interns from across America. It was a great chance to meet people who are in similar position as you and begin building my network. During the internship, there is a great balance between actual accounting work on large international clients, community involvement activities, and intern social events. The Silicon Valley office had about 50 interns that I was able to get to know pretty well.
I had the amazing opportunity to participate in KPMG’s global internship program. I spent half of my internship working out of the Budapest, Hungary office working on the world’s largest multinational beer, wine and spirits company’s audit engagement. I worked with KPMG professionals ranging from nine countries, on cross bordering issues; all the while assimilating myself into the Hungarian culture and exploring the Eastern European region. I can honestly say, from my personal experience, that I am excited with beginning my career at KPMG and looking forward to the doors that it will open in the future.
